The Cardinals will retain 40 percent of Wainwright's salary ($2M). I thought I was completely doomed until going undefeated last week and climbing right back into the playoff race. With Bauer and Kershaw out, pitching is the most obvious need for me to hang in said race, and Wainwright is an affordable way of doing so.
