On the surface this doesn't look like a great deal for me. However, I think it's a very smart move. I love Munoz. He's young and he's been great. However, Alvarado was every bit as good last year and has a much longer history of being good... And he's looking at the closers job.
Sure, Munoz is 3 years younger and cheaper. However, I really like the cost certainty of Alvarado. 3 more years at $3.3m a year is a steal. Munoz will get a very significant raise coming off his RFA deal next season. I'm looking to compete for the title for the next couple of seasons and this very much helps for next season.
