Detroit Tigers Send:
Mike Trout OF LAA ($22.5m thru ’25) Yu Darvish SP SD ($9m thru ’24)
New York Yankees Send:
Yoan Moncada 3B CHW ($15m thru ’25) Josh Lowe OF TB (rookie deal; ’25 RFA) Adbert Alzolay SP,RP CHC (rookie deal; ’24 RFA) Quinn Priester SP PIT (MiLB) 2023 1st (CLE) 2023 1st (SD) 2024 2nd (NYY) 2024 3rd (TOR)
Detroit accepts. This roster needs a complete overhaul and moving these older and expensive assets for cheap, promising youth and solid draft capital is the first step in our rebuild. Moncada has been not so good this year, but is only 27 and given that production at 3B is tougher to come by we are comfortable taking the gamble that he turns it around at some point; we are still shedding a decent amount of salary here even with his $15m coming back.
Could we have gotten more for Trout? Maybe. But Squibbles came knocking first and offered what feels like a fair deal. Thanks and good luck, Yanks!

I am by no means a buyer, but when one of the best baseball players becomes available, it's hard not to come knocking. Darvish has been decent, and I hope could give me a better veteran presence for my staff, because the staff didn't have the best talent at this time. I like Priester a lot, but I do fear that the Pirates development of arms may not bode well for him. Moncada has been shaky, and I didn't want to be on the wrong side of the gamble, so I get out of that. Lowe has promise, however he hasn't performed the greatest in his stints. Alzolay is solid, but has been hurt and who knows how he will play coming off of the injury. The picks still leave me with I believe 5 first rounders for this upcoming draft, so I felt comfortable sharing a few around. I do believe that the talent that Ryan can draft will help his rebuild, and I do believe that if the four pieces do work out, it will be a solid deal all around. But that is the risk of trading for prospects/young pieces, you're counting on upside and hope they perform. I will continue to reshape my roster, but I do believe that this was a solid first step. Thank you Ryan for adding to one of the biggest named trading periods I have ever witnessed. Trout, Yu, Soto, Trea Turner, Altuve, Arenado, Mookie, Frankie Lindor, Woodruff, Mad Max, Carlos Correa, and more have been traded so I can only wait to see how the rest of the deadline goes!

I scratch my head and try to figure out how this one works for either team but wish you both the best. Approve!

Approve. This is a weird deal that I would have said no way to before but the salary and injuries with trout kind of wash that out a bit.
